I believe that we are largely in charge of our own destiny. I envision the reality in which I'd like to live, and then do what I can do make it happen. I create little worlds, whether in glass, or in words, or in web designs, that make the imagination come alive. Stained and etched glass ornaments, coasters, and panels in celestial and southwestern designs are my trademarks.

I learned the art of stained glass from my grandfather when i was 16, and have made a living doing it for over 30 years. Custom doors and windows are my specialty, for homes, churches, and businesses. About 10 years ago I started restoring and selling antique slot machines as a sideline, which is now a thriving business.

When painting scenes of rural Washtenaw County I am attracted by its vivid imagery, especially found in farmsteads. Using a representational style, I strive to achieve a painterly quality. My landscapes capture horizontal sunlight and long shadows, dewy atmosphere, and seasonal changes. I'm especially interested in recording the elements of time’s impact on our lovely barns; highlighting their stateliness as they age.

I have always been intrigued with making things, being aware of nature and trying to limit my use of resources on this planet so to reduce global warming. Recycling is a big part of my art. I try to practice what I preach by using found objects in my work. They tell a story of their own, along with adding character to art. When I see a design in my mind I try to shape it into reality. My work is freehand and comfortable. I cut or add to my eyes’ delight. I like curves and flow the pieces into a new use. . I find a new energy from some objects, and creativity takes that "Ah Ha!" step. Some metal can develop a look over time much as a wine’s flavor can grow. I try to blend the look of rust with the shine of grinding. I hammer the surface repeatedly to develop a textured look. My hands seem to know what to do when I cut, hammer and weld metal. Learning to let my heart over rule my conscience is sometimes the hard part.

David Dominic
Ann Arbor Area
David Dominic, Jr is a Detroit based photographer/videographer who has traveled the world and been shaped by a variety of experiences in his 39 years of life. As an engineering graduate from the University of Michigan, he brings attention to detail and technical mastery to his work. With fourteen years of project planning and program management in the high pressure field of automotive engineering, David can bring in a quality product on time and on budget. But it takes more than technical skill and planning to make a great photograph. It takes life-shaping experiences for one to be able to step back and observe situations with a different eye. Chess champion, rodeo champion, motor sports racer, musician, writer, camper, climber, adventure racer, husband, and father. All of these things have shaped his life and molded his eye. Whether David is photographing models or children, food and drink, foreign landscapes, or is on the road with a band, he brings honesty, reliability, and creativity to his photographic work. His motion picture work includes documentaries, music videos, and commercial work, where he not only creates the imagery but also directs and produces the shoots. David is also a member of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians which helps to bring a unique cultural perspective to his work that most creatives in his field do not possess. In addition to his imaging work, David is currently pursuing his teaching degree at the University of Michigan so that he can pass on to other generations his knowledge and experience.

I am a graphic designer and illustrator as well as a painter; I once thought these endeavors were separate but have realized that they're strongly connected and inform and enrich each other. My design/illustration/editorial work includes award-winning books, brochures, logos for university and business clients; my paintings, available through River Gallery and Splaine Dolan Fine Art, focus on the landscape and are usually oil on linen. I work quite large, usually basing my paintings on small on-site watercolor sketches. I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful area.

Watercolor artist. Ever since I was a child I have enjoyed drawing and painting, and so I've been an artist most of my life. I am a visual person with an interest in people, animals, and nature. Some of my watercolor paintings are a combination of realistic subjects with soft impressionistic backgrounds, while other paintings are a soft realistic style. I have worked with oils and acrylics in the past, and developed some of my style working with those mediums. I became interested in watercolors a few years ago, and found that I really enjoyed working with that medium. I liked their transparency, luminous colors, and the soft look of watercolor paintings. My interest in watercolors has kept me inspired to continue learning, exploring, and growing. I am a member of the Ann Arbor Women's Artists and my watercolor paintings have been exhibited in several local businesses.

I am currently touring in 'Bernhardt on Broadway,' a one-woman musical about Sarah Bernhardt that I researched, wrote, composed, and perform. One hundred years ago Sarah Bernhardt was the most famous woman in the world. She is often referred to as the most famous actress of all time. This is a production that is not only entertaining but authentic. It transports the audience back to the Belle Epoque through the eyes of Sarah Bernhardt.
