I am an Ann Arbor native and the founding Artistic Director of the Brooklyn-based theater company Polybe + Seats. Polybe + Seats produces new plays and collaboratively-developed work that experiments with images, language, structure, and storytelling. We have been making theater together since 2001. By engaging with multiple perspectives we invite our audiences to make their own connections with our work. The non-theatrical spaces in which we have produced our work have provided visual and dramaturgical inspiration; venues include a barge, a kitchenware store, a church and several galleries. We are proud members of the Alliance of Resident Theaters / New York and are a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a national arts service organization. Our work has been funded by The Brooklyn Arts Council, The Mental Insight Foundation, The Nancy Quinn Fund, The Jerome Foundation, The Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, and the National Foundation for Jewish Culture. Our work has been presented by The University of Michigan, Mabou Mines / Suite, Brooklyn Fire Proof, and the Waterfront Museum and Showboat Barge.

My art is a construct of ideas derived from many sources to present insights into universal truths and explore the concept of paradox in our ever-expanding world. These original oil paintings represent modern folklore using mythology and other past ideas either true or of the hand-me-down-variety. I paint in series. All series include a musical theme. I like to show my view of the human condition along with our inner kinship.

I have studied many styles of oil painting. I most frequently fall into a subjective tonal impressionist style of painting. I love to paint on location, in plein air, around Michigan and other places in addition to my studio work. Having grown up in a rural environment, I enjoy the simple quiet places in nature. While exploring the forest trails, or driving the country roads, I am reenergized, completely at peace, among the seemingly tranquil existence of nature and the wildlife so fortunate to live there. You will find me in these places, painting what excites me, capturing feelings of a place that can be far more reaching than paint can express.

I am a Michigan-born, multimedia artist and designer who works primarily with acrylics, colored pencils, and photography. My works of art explore nature's dramatic pattern, bold shapes and a vivid color palette with oil as my medium of choice. I enjoy the relationship between the elements within each painting which can lend a touch of whimsy and a hint of a story that can change with each viewer. My work offers an window into an uncommon world. A world that we as humans may catch glimpses of or sometimes hear or read about but rarely see in detail. My goal is to create a porthole for the viewer to experience nature's awesome and unique beauty. Mankind as a whole feels superior to all other living things. My intention is to help people recognize the importance of all life that we share this planet with. In this high tech age I feel that humans have much to learn about our natural world and it is very rewarding for me to be able to help teach them through the images that I create.
