Each election cycle The Arts Alliance conducts surveys on local, state and national political candidates’ positions on arts and culture. Candidates’ responses are compiled and published, appearing in such media sources as WEMU 89.1 FM, The Michigan Daily and MLive’s The Ann Arbor News.
In large election years The Arts Alliance convenes a Candidate Forum, inviting all candidates running for office to represent constituents in Washtenaw County to speak on how, if elected, their work will impact the creative sector. These forums are open to the public.
The Arts Alliance’s advocacy work has resulted, in part, in a number of new initiatives including the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (AAACF) adopting a strategic plan with a focus on Creative Economic Development and commissioning an Americans for the Arts (AFTA) Arts & Economic Prosperity IV Economic Impact Study for Washtenaw County. The Arts Alliance is managing the audience survey of the study.
