The Arts Alliance advocates every day, across sectors, for the value and support of Washtenaw County’s arts and creative industries.The Arts Alliance regularly holds candidates forums and annually surveys candidates running for office in Washtenaw County regarding their positions on representing the creative sector. Candidates’ responses are distributed in the eNewsletter and released to the media for publication.
Creative Washtenaw Votes!, an arts advocacy training session and Candidates’ Town Hall was held in 2016 in partnership with Creative Many Michigan and the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance of Eastern Michigan University.
Each election cycle The Arts Alliance conducts surveys on local, state and national political candidates’ positions on the arts and creative industries.. Candidates’ responses are compiled and published, appearing in such media sources as WEMU 89.1 FM, The Michigan Daily and MLive’s The Ann Arbor News.
In even election years The Arts Alliance convenes a Candidate Forum, inviting all candidates running for office to represent constituents in Washtenaw County. The candidates engage in a conversation on how they, if elected/reelected, will influence policy and investment in the creative sector to spur economic growth, retain talent, attract businesses, residents and visitors, enhance education and build quality of life and place. These forums are open to the public.
